Designer 911 was created to bridge the gap between design education and real-world practice.
Meet the Founder + Instructor
Jan Smith
Designer 911 was created to support interior designers who need practical, technically sound training that aligns with real-world practice.
Founded by Jan Smith, an award-winning interior designer, educator, and technical consultant, Designer 911 is rooted in over 20+ years of professional experience spanning residential, commercial, and hospitality projects, alongside extensive teaching at the college level. Jan has spent her career working at the intersection of design, documentation, and technology - where creativity meets precision.
Through years of teaching CAD, Revit, and advanced technical courses, Jan identified a consistent challenge: designers often leave school with strong design foundations but limited exposure to the day-to-day technical workflows required in practice. Designer 911 was developed to bridge that gap.
The platform focuses on applied, practice-based instruction, covering software, workflows, and documentation standards used in professional studios today. Courses are designed to be flexible, accessible, and immediately useful, supporting working designers, recent graduates, and professionals returning to technical tools after time away.
Designer 911 is not a replacement for formal education, but a focused technical resource, built to complement design training and support designers as they move confidently from concept to construction documentation.
